Employment Pass in Singapore
Notably, all foreigners need a Singapore immigration employment pass for them to legally work in Singapore. The employment pass is a high-class and quota-free visa and is the most privileged type of work visa. It is designed for overseas specialists, executives and managerial staff that wish to contribute unique skills and expertise to the local economy.
Don’t Worry About the New Language
English is one of the official languages in Singapore. Most locals understand and speak English, so you will have it easy moving around and learning more about your new environment.
However, there exists another language. Incorporating elements of Chinese and Malay, Singlish is a kind of English spoken in Singapore. Don’t panic though because after some months of living in Singapore you will gain a better understanding of the language.
Taxes
Individuals, residents or non-residents working in Singapore are required to file tax returns each calendar year. Tax returns should include profits from a business or any other type of revenue earned.
Of considerable importance is that Singapore does not use a PAYE (Pay as You Earn) system. The tax returns are filed with regard to the amount earned the previous year.
Weather
The weather in Singapore is practically warm all year round. Due to the tropical climate, rains are sporadic; daytime temperatures average 30 degrees Celsius and drop to about 25 degrees Celsius at night.
Accommodation in Singapore
Singapore offers a variety of housing options and types. Depending on how much you plan to spend on housing, you can choose from the luxurious mansions to the comfortable bungalows. The houses could either be owned by private companies or the government under the bankrolled Housing Development Board.
How long you wish to stay will also be a determining factor. For a short stay, serviced apartments are a good choice. If it is your first time there, leasing an apartment for a while before setting out to shop for property is a wise option.
Transport
Purchasing a personal car for driving around can be expensive due to the high taxes and other rates slapped on vehicles by Singapore’s government.
Singapore has invested well in public transportation services. Public transport is much cheaper and more efficient, and delays are rarely heard of.
Education
Singapore has a world-renowned education system focused on empowering its people. Singapore’s Ministry of Education carries out the annual admission of international students across the country’s public schools. Immigrant students without an Immigration Exemption Order or a Dependent’s Pass need to acquire a Student Pass beforehand.
Talent schools and institutions such as Singapore Sports School are available for kids who have individual talents.
Good information on Singapore.
Thank you Tarik! I am established in the Philippines and Singapore is on my radar. I need to know if I have to marry a Filipino to become a resident. I have been told I must marry a Filipino. Please advise and also what is the fastest way to become an expat in PI. Thanks and let me know if I can support you in any way. I am about to teach at the University and my cafe is doing well.
Great question. You can apply for the 13(a) visa if you are already married to a Filipina. This gives you a resident visa so you don’t have to renew every 2 months. The fastest way is to simply extend your tourist visa every 2 months to the Immigration office and you can stay for up to 3 years until you have to leave.
